Since We started my own business in 2000 as Sagawa IP office, We have continued to do so with the joy of growing together with our client. We are pleased to announce that we have established SAGAWA INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY FIRM and will take over the operations of, which was operating as a sole proprietorship. We are a team of 7 highly qualified staff members: 5 Japan patent & trademark attorneys and 2 paralegal. We represent clients on patent, utility model, trademark, design and copyright and related transactional matters.

Our services cover: the filing of patent, utility model, trademark and design applications worldwide; conducting prior art searches, invalidity searches and trademark searches; handling oppositions and trial for invalidation; the agreements relating to the acquisition and licensing of patents, utility models, trademarks, designs and copyright; infringement proceedings, litigation and licensing in regard to patents, utility models, trademarks and designs with attorneys at law in Japan; the preparation of expert opinions; counseling on strategies for establishing and preserving intellectual property right portfolios.

Since we have forged relationships with foreign patent firms around the world, we are able to secure protection for intellectual property rights on a global basis. Our clients range from individual inventors, medium-sized companies to large international corporations. Mr. Sagawa established Sagawa Shingo International Patent Office in 2000 as an expert service provider to the business community.

His practice areas are filing and prosecuting patents as well as utility models, trademarks and designs, litigation proceedings and expert opinions in the field of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology.

He is a graduate of the Tokyo University of Science in mechanical engineering and holds a Master of Engineering from Tokyo University of Science.

He registered as a patent & trademark attorney in 1997 (Reg. No. 111076) and also has a qualification of IP infringement litigation.
Before establishing Sagawa Shingo IP Office, he worked for Nakao & Ito Patent Office from 1993.
He is chairman of Japan Patent Attorneys Association, Hokkaido Branch.

He registered as a patent & trademark attorney in 2010 (Reg. No.16934) and also has a qualification of IP infringement litigation.

Mr. Kawano joined Sagawa Shingo IP Office in 2002. Before he joined Sagawa Shingo IP Office, he worked for intellectual property department of Asahi Optical Co., Ltd. (currently: Pentax Ricoh Imaging Co., Ltd.).

Mr. Kawano graduated from Hokkaido University in mechanical engineering. He holds a Master of Engineering from Hokkaido University.

Yoko EBE,

Patent&Trademark Attorney

Ms. EBE graduated from the Hokkaido University in the faculty of science. She holds a master of science from the Hokkaido University.

Her special subjects are filing and prosecuting patents as well as utility models, and expert opinions in the field of biological science and biotechnology.

She registered as a patent & trademark attorney in 2014.

Ms. EBE joined Sagawa Shingo IP Office in 2009. Before joined Sagawa Shingo IP Office, she worked for Sapporo city government.

Tomoyuki OHKUBO

Patent&Trademark Attorney, ph.D

Mr. Ohkubo’s areas of expertise are filing patents as well as utility models and designs, search for patent invalidity and expert opinions in the field of mechanical engineering, fluid mechanical engineering and information technology.

He registered as a patent & trademark attorney in 2016(Reg. No.20662).

Mr. Ohkubo joined Sagawa Shingo IP Office in 2005.

Mr. Ohkubo graduated from Hokkaido University in mechanical engineering.He holds a Doctor of Engineering from Hokkaido University.

She holds a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Hokkaido University and also has a license for pharmacist.

Her special subjects are filing and prosecuting patents as well as utility models, and expert opinions in the field of biological science, biotechnology, food and chemistry.

Ms. Ohta joined Sagawa Shingo IP Office in 2019.

She used to work for Daiichi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (currently Daiichi Sankyo Healthcare Co., Ltd.).
